Teen Dies After Leg Fracture Treatment at Ranchi Hospital, Family Alleges Negligence and Launches Protest
A teenager who underwent treatment for a leg fracture at a private hospital in Ranchi died after allegedly developing a severe infection, prompting protests by his family. The relatives accused the hospital of negligence, reusing medical instruments, and inflating treatment costs, while the hospital denied the allegations. Police are awaiting a formal complaint.
According to the family, Raju was admitted to Raj Hospital on May 24 for treatment after suffering a leg fracture. They alleged that the hospital failed to dress his wound for several days, allowing a serious infection to spread. As his health deteriorated, he was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit and placed on ventilator support. The family further claimed that doctors later suggested amputation of his leg, but despite continued treatment, he eventually died.
Following his death, the deceased's relatives staged a protest at the hospital's billing counter. The demonstration was led by a former Army serviceman from the family, who accused the hospital of medical negligence. The family alleged that hospital staff reused medical instruments and deliberately inflated treatment expenses to prolong the patient's stay and increase billing.
Raj Hospital rejected the allegations, stating that Raju had been admitted with multiple critical injuries and not merely a leg fracture. The hospital maintained that his medical condition was far more serious than claimed by the family.
Police said they are awaiting a formal complaint before initiating an investigation into the incident. The case has drawn attention as the grieving family continues to seek accountability, while the incident has once again intensified public concern over treatment standards and practices at private hospitals in Jharkhand.
